In spite of no 5G services being provided in India, there is a lot of hype for 5G phones. Following this trend, a lot of smartphone companies have opted to release 5G phones to grab the attention of tech lovers and to retain their own loyal customers as well. Oppo has also taken this path, and hence we are here to provide a review of another 5G phone, which is Oppo A74 5G.
Oppo A74 5G is the first 5G phone in its A series and have priced it under 20,000 to compete with phones such as the Realme Narzo 30 Pro 5G, the Samsung Galaxy M42. These are smartphones that have also offered 5G support, but Oppo A74 stands out, as it is the first to combine it with Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 SoC.
Introduction: Release Date and Price

(The stated prices are in accordance with the information provided in the respective e-tail sites.)
Design And Display
The company has done well when it comes to the design of the phone. The smartphone looks good and professional with a decent shape and has a very sturdy build. The phone’s purple version appeals more than the black one, as it has a better gradient, giving the phone a premium look. For its mid-range price. The is entirely made with plastic, but in no way does it bring down the look nor quality of the phone. The company has succeeded in camouflaging this and has also maintained a strong build quality. The phone fits snuggly in hands, and it is worth noting that the rear panel of the phone attracts fingerprints, which in turn gives the phone a dirty look. Also, the phone does not provide a screen guard, and if you wish to use one, you will have to purchase it separately.
Coming to its display, the phone has an immersive 6.5-inch screen, and though it sounds like it would make the phone way too big to be used comfortably, on the contrary, it fits well, even if it’s handled by a person with considerable small hands. The selfie camera is a punch hole at the left top corner of the screen.
The pixel density of the phone is 405 ppi, and the phone performs well under sunlight. There are not many complaints about the display of the phone and it works well from different angles as well. It provides a good gaming experience with a refresh rate of 90 hertz.
Specs and Performance
The phone comes with 128GB Internal Storage, 6GB RAM, and a 5000mAh Battery with 18W Fast Charging and is powered by a Snapdragon 48- 5Gmchipset. This is where the phone pulls low for gamers. When it comes to gaming, Snapdragon 400 series cannot be relied on, and hence its usage in this phone makes it unfit for gaming purposes. It should be noted that it will not stop you from using gaming applications, but will affect your experience as it will lag a lot. The phone is ideally made for routine-daily purposes.
The phone runs on Android 11 and has a lot of bloatware. Fortunately, a lot of these can be uninstalled. The phone will also receive frequent updates.

Battery and Camera
Oppo A74 5G comes with a 5000mAh battery and supports an 18W fast charging. The phone does not drain out for a whole day, even if you are using it heavily. The charging is pretty fast and takes around 90 minutes to fully juice up.
The camera is reasonable and can be termed as best at the price it comes at. It has a triple rear camera with its primary camera of 48MP. Secondary sensors are of 2MP. Overall, it produces good pictures and has focusing and colour reproduction capabilities. It does not give the best detailing in its pictures, but the images are good enough to be passed as high quality and are ideal for pictures to be uploaded o social media. The phone does not take videos on 4K resolution but on 1080p at 30fps. It should be noted that it has no external mic support, even though it has a 3.5mm headphone jack, so if you are looking for a phone to help you with your professional videos or your channel, this phone is not fit for you.
Conclusion
As you might have figured out by the details given above, the phone is quite good for the price it is sold at. If you are looking for a decent phone for your day to day use, this phone would be ideal for you. Of course, it does get the cool factor of being a 5G phone. But if you are a person who wants a phone for some purpose, such as creating video content for your social media or if you are a gamer, this phone isn’t ideal. The phone does come with Android 11 and 5G support, so if these two cons dont matter to you, or even if you play games just for relaxation, the phone might just fit your needs.
