The tech giant company Apple has marked its first significant update for iPhones since iOS 15 in September. The previous updates to iOS 15 included bugs and security fixes. The latest iOS 15.1 came alongside the release of macOS Monterey, Apple’s Mac lineup’s latest operating system.

iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1 contains a handful of new features. For example, Apple launched the new FaceTime’s SharePlay feature. You can use the new FaceTime to watch the same show remotely with someone in apps like Apple TV. You can share your screen with someone, troubleshoot their device and listen to music together. SharePlay is currently supported by Apple Music, Apple TV+ and Apple Fitness+, Disney+, ESPN+, HBO Max, Hulu, MasterClass, Paramount+, Pluto TV, SoundCloud, TikTok, Twitch, and other services coming in the future. It works on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.
Another feature launched is ProRes video for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. For the first time, Apple’s mobile devices have been able to record in the company’s ProRes codec and also edit the video using apps like iMovie. These are the most popular codecs in post-production video editing for professionals. On the iPhone, this will enable recording in the highest quality for editing and post-processing with less compression than the standard H.264/HEVC codec.

ProRes is available up to 4K at 30fps. If you have a 128GB storage iPhone 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max, then according to Apple, your ProRes footage will be limited to 1080p Full HD definition with 30fps. To use ProRes, go to Settings> Camera> Formats and enable the Apple ProRes switch.
Apple has also added an option to disable automatic camera switching to macro mode. Currently, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max cameras will automatically switch to macro mode when you get close to your subject. With this update, the user can disable the automatic transition when the camera gets closer to the subject. The 15.1 update also adds COVID-19 vaccination card support within the Apple Wallet app. It makes it easier to store and present your vaccination card from your iPhone or Apple Watch. To download the iOS update, go to Settings > General > Software Update. The download has a file size of about 1.4GB.
